What's
the difference between
R-Series
and SF-Series?
Royer
Labs currently produces two families of microphones, R-series and SF-series.
The two families are distinguished by ribbon transducer geometry and
microphone application. With each family we offer a choice between
passive, phantom powered active, and vacuum tube versions. |

R-121 Ribbon Microphone |
|
 |
The
R-121 is our flagship microphone. It's everything a ribbon should
be - warm, smooth, natural sounding. It's also tough as nails,
lightweight, can handle high SPL's and live stage use, and comes
with a lifetime warranty. Welcome to the new world of ribbon
microphones! (more)

R-122 Active Ribbon™ Microphone |
|
|

|
The
R-122 is the world's first active ribbon™ microphone.
Designed to work with phantom power, it delivers all of the warm, natural tone of our R-121, but
with 13 dB more output and impedance matching circuitry that
makes it compatible with almost any mic preamplifier. (more)

R-122V Vacuum Tube Ribbon Microphone |
|
|
 |
The
R-122V is the world's first vacuum tube ribbon microphone. Originally
developed in 2001 as a benchmark for testing R-122 designs against,
the unique R-122V has evolved into a world class ribbon microphone
with amazing depth and reach in the midrange frequencies and a lush-ness
you'll need to hear for yourself to believe. (more)

SF-12 Stereo Coincident Ribbon Microphone
| |
| The
SF-12 is an extremely natural sounding stereo ribbon microphone.
With its flat frequency response and outstanding stereo
separation and imaging, the SF-12 delivers you-are-there recordings
like you've never heard before. (more)

SF-24 Stereo Active Ribbon™ Microphone
| |
| |
| The
SF-24 has all of the outstanding stereophonic capability and
sonic performance of our award winning SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone,
with the addition of condenser-level output and impedance matching
circuitry. Designed to work with phantom power, the SF-24 makes preamplifier mismatches and gain-related
noise a thing of the past. (more)

SF-1 Ribbon Microphone
| |
| |

| The
SF-1 is a mono version of the SF-12. Utilizing a smaller and thinner
(1.8-micron) ribbon than our R-121 mono ribbon mic, the SF-1 is
an excellent choice for demanding classical recordings. (more)

RSM-1
Microphone Shock Mount
| |
| |

| All good studio microphones
should be placed in shock mounts for recording. Shock mounts
keep vibrations from making their way up the mic stand, transferring
into the microphone and showing up on your tracks as unwelcome
noise. Sometimes vibration related noise that's unnoticeable
while you're tracking shows up when you master, then suddenly
it's “What's up with the thumps
and noise in the bottom end?” Oops - should've used a shock…
The RSM-1 was designed for maximum shock protection, durability,
ease of use and versatility. Not to mention that it's got a Royer
logo and looks sharp. It's made of high-tech materials that will
hold up for many years, and it doesn't use elastic bands that can
stretch out over time.
Our AT-84 shock mount is excellent for our
R-121 and SF-1 mics. But the longer bodied SF-12 stereo ribbon and
R-122 active ribbon™ mics have a tendency to “lean” a
little with the AT-84, especially when you position the mics horizontally
(as with drum overheads). The RSM-1 provides a more secure hold,
and its special orientation slots make pulling a mic out of the shock
from the cable end impossible. The orientation slots are provided
to let you position the mics forward or backwards (for tracking on
the back side of R-121 and R-122 mics). While the RSM-1 is specially
made to fit Royer microphones, it will also work with any 1-inch
diameter mic.

AT-84
Microphone Shock Mount
| |
|

|
The AT84 shock-mount is a cost
effective alternative to the RSM-1. It is the suggested shock mount
for Royer R-121s and SF-1s and it also provides good shock protection
for our R-122 and SF-12 microphones, when the mics are positioned
vertically.

PS-101
Pop Filter
| |
|

|
Finally,
a pop filter that doesn't filter your sound along with the pops.
Look through a Royer PS-101 pop filter and you will see the mic
clearly. The secret is the special louvered metal that deflects
wind downwards while letting sound go directly through (see the
PS-101 Close Up). The PS-101 will last for many years (try that
with your nylon!), it can be cleaned with soap and water, and it
looks good too!

WS-12
Windscreen (for SF-12)
| |
|

|
Protect
your SF-12 and SF-24 ribbon elements with the WS-12 windscreen.
It effectively stops even high winds from reaching your microphone
and attenuation is negligible.

WS-58
Foam Windscreen (for R-121)
| |
|
|
For
outdoor recording or any place where your R-121 or R-122 will be
exposed to wind, remember that with all ribbon mics, wind is the
enemy. Protect your ribbon element with a WS-58.

Cable
Sets and Parts
| |
|
|

|
Our
stereo SF-24 and SF-12 microphones come with 2-part cable sets.
The first part of the set is a 5-conductor extension cable
(18 ft for the SF-12 and 25 ft for the SF-24) that connects
to the microphone on one end and to the splitter cable on the
other end. The second part of the set is the splitter cable
that separates into two 3-conductor cables labeled Upper and
Lower (for the upper and lower ribbon elements) which terminate
into 3-pin XLR connectors.
If
your cable set (or either part of it) is ever lost, replacement
parts are available
CS-18 (SF-12
cable set with 18 foot extension cable): $156.00
CS-25 (SF-24 cable set with 25 foot extension cable): $196.00
YC-18 (splitter cable): $64.50
EXC-18 (18-foot extension cable for the SF-12): $91.50
EXC-25 (25-foot extension cable for the SF-24): $131.50
Extension
cables are available when longer cable runs are needed
EXC50
(50-foot extension 5-conductor cable): $147.75
EXC100 (100-foot extension 5-conductor cable): $247.00
